Baby Boomers prefer buying EVs from legacy automakers

As they compete against the likes of Tesla, traditional automakers could find a niche with Baby Boomers looking for a new electric vehicle.

That’s the takeaway from a Bloomberg story that delves into generational EV buying preferences.

A Morning Consult poll found that 38 percent of people born between 1946 and 1964 would prefer to buy an EV from a legacy automaker while only 12 percent preferred buying an EV from a company that only makes electric vehicles.

Morning Consult’s auto and mobility analyst Lisa Whalen told Bloomberg that Baby Boomers tend to be loyal customers who offer car companies a large base of buyers to sell to.

Members of Generation X lean towards buying an EV from long-established automakers while more Millennials and members of Generation Z prefer companies that solely make EVs, the poll found.
